Thirsty Thursday: One of the Most Exclusive and Expensive Wines in the World!

Happy Thirsty Thursday!  As I mentioned last week, Thirsty Thursday is a new section on NewsforChews that will be dedicated to all things drink related…recipes, news, and anything else I think is important for you to know.  While it will not be always alcohol related (as Thirsty Thursdays typically are), it looks like the first few Thirsty Thursday posts will be! Today is about wine!   When my family was visiting Burgundy, France this year we stood less a foot away from one of the most exclusive and expensive wine vineyards in the world, Romanée-Conti.  If you didn’t have a tour guide, you probably would have driven right by the plot of land and not even realize what you passed.  The Romanée-Conti plot is unassuming, blends in with the rest of the vineyards, and is simply marked by a stone cross looking over the wine-blessed land. Now, what makes this plot of land produce the most exclusive, expensive, and sought after wine?  Is it the constant amazing bottles of wine put on the table, the position …

Boeuf Bourguignon in Burgundy!

Wednesday’s post was an overview and gave highlights of my family’s French vacation this year.  Today on the menu is the local cuisine of Bourgogne.  Probably the most famous and well-known cuisine of Bourgogne is Boeuf Bourguignon.  Two of the most important ingredients for this meal are the Charolais cows (only native to this region) and Burgundy red wine. Here are two of the Boeuf Bourguignon that my family had during our time in Bourgogne!  Read Monday’s post HERE for descriptions and other foods from these restaurants. In honor of Julia Child’s 101st birthday today, I will give you her recipe for Boeuf Bourguignon! 1 6 Ounce Chunk of Bacon Remove rind and cut bacon into lardons (sticks, 1/4 inch think and 1 1/2 inches long) Simmer rind and bacon for 10 minutes in 1 1/2 quarts of water Drain and Dry   Preheat oven to 450 degrees 1 TBSP Olive Oil or Cooking Oil 3 Pounds lean stewing beef, cut into 2inch cubes 1 Sliced Carrot 1 Sliced Onion 1 TSP Salt 1/4 TSP …

Los Angeles Food and Wine Festival-Part 1

Today we are not having Meatless Monday…I am going to finally tell you about the this year’s Los Angeles Food and Wine Festival in downtown Los Angeles.  This is the main gist of the Festival, you drink a lot of wine and champagne from amazing wineries and you eat a lot of delicious food from world-class chefs.  A pretty perfect afternoon if you ask me!  I am dividing the experience into 3 parts; main dishes, desserts, and a Q&A with Delta wine sommelier Andrea Robinson. The wineries represented were from some of the best in Napa Valley, Sonoma, Mendocino County, Santa Barbara, and more.  Chefs were from the most exclusive Los Angeles restaurants, sought-after resorts, and included many Bravo Top Chefs.  Below are images of my mouth-watering menu and descriptions, with a few of my favorites starred. When you walk into the Festival, the first thing that you grab is an empty wine glass, then you are thrown into a huge tent with hundreds of vendors.  My plan was to survey the vendors and pick which ones …

Tuesday’s Tip-Cooling Your Wine

How many times have you forgotten the wine to entertain or decided to entertain (or just enjoy some wine yourself) at the last moment?  And, of course, you have to buy the non-chilled bottle at the store.  You put in the fridge in hopes that it will chill in time only to open the bottle, pour yourself a glass, and have a sip of lukewarm wine.  Not what you thought, right?  Well, easy and simple solution…put your wine in the freezer for about 20 minutes instead of the fridge.  This will cool your wine to the perfect temp and you will have the perfect glass of wine! Have a tip for me to share?  Leave it in the comments below or email me at newsforchews@gmail.com! Stay hungry…
